Full Description

An axe mould comprising an irregular block of a fine grained grey stone. Matrix of large axe, blackened, one face rough, eroded. Face A: flat axe, length 140 mm, cutting edge 78 mm, max. depth 15 mm; small flat axe, length 71 mm, cutting edge 32 mm, max. depth 10 mm; bar, length 86 mm, width 9 mm, depth 6 mm. Face B: extensively damaged, probably matrix for flat axe. Side: possibly matrix for bar. Presented to Royal Scottish Museum (now NMS), 1929.
