Full Description
Amorphous mass of stones forming no coherent pattern, appears to be modern stone clearance heap but perhaps a strange place for it. Varies from roughly oval heaps 15 m x 8 m to, on west slopes, a consolidated band of rubble circa 20 m wide. This site was again visited in 1999. There would appear to be the remains of a thick wall encircling the summit of this pronounced mound. In places it is very denuded but can be traced among the gorse as a mere rickle of stones. Small 'cells' are built into the thickness of the wall, in some places circa 20 m wide. The whole summit is similar to a number of early historic sites in the north and west of Scotland. On the west side one of these is in a better state of preservation than the others, standing up to 2.5 m high. This was used for circa 50 years up until the 1960s by a tinker who stayed in it. A corrugated iron roof had been placed over the top and parts of the sides were built up to form a shelter.
