Full Description
An Early Bronze Age hoard was found in a cist, which may have contained an inhumation, in 1818. The hoard consisted of two flat axes and a halberd. One flat axe is described as porous, green, with a tinned surface and faceted sides. Dimensions: length 145 mm, butt 37 mm, cutting edge 82 mm, weight 510 g, NMAS(DA 32). The other flat axe is of Migdale Type No 156. It is smooth, green, slightly porous, with one face tinned, and the butt worked in modern times. Fine scratch marks are evident. Dimensions: length 147 mm, butt 33 mm cutting edge 77 mm, weight 435 g, NMAS(DA 33). The halberd is of O'Riordain Type 6, length 276 mm, width 87 mm with midrib and four rivet holes, NMAS (DJ 4).
