Full Description
Wreckage of a Seafire aeroplane, including the crankshaft and propeller hub, lies on the East face of The Drum hill by Glenlatterach reservoir. On the 5th July 1948, two Seafires from 767 Squadron (based at Milltown airfield) collided mid-air. The remains of Seafire SW826 can be seen on the hill - the pilot baled out at low altitude and suffered a broken ankle. The second Seafire (SW904) crash landed circa 300 yards South of Easterton Farm (approximately NJ 212 561), but the pilot did not survive. Site visit in August 2021 as part of a walkover survey by AOC ahead of a proposed wind farm (NJ15SE0068) observed some wreckage of the aircraft.
