Full Description

A linear earthwork bank surviving to a maximum height of 3 m was observed running parallel with the cliff edge. Recorded during coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009. The embankment is related to an Air Ministry Research Establishment (A.M.R.E.) which was situated within a fenced enclosure, and which is visible on an RAF air photo taken in 1942. The structures which are visible on the photographs are two towers of probable wooden construction set about 145 m apart, the larger is at NO 6680 4167, the other at circa NO 6692 4175. Both towers were demolished during the war and no trace survives on the ground apart from the embankment on the seaward side of the enclosure.
