Full Description

Possible shieling. It comprises a square enclosure with a plot of spade rigs, several sub-oval structures and two areas of larger rigs. Remains were also recorded by the BIrse Community Trust. There are stone footings of a dwelling at NO 51793 89283, measuring circa 7m by 2m, with a possible entrance in the northwest wall. The lack of tumble suggests these are footings of a turf walled building. An irregularly shaped enclosure, 4m by 5m, abuts the northwest side of the building. At NO 51764 89257 are the stone footings of another dwelling, measuring circa 6m by 2m, with an internal partition wall, and aligned northeast-southwest up the slope. At the southwest end is an outshot measuring 2.5m by 2m with a probable entrance on the northwest. At NO 51719 89270 are the footings of a dwelling measuring circa 8m by 2m, with an internal partition wall, but no obvious entrance. At NO 51685 89322 are the low wall footings of an irregular enclosure, 8m by 5m at its widest, and some 3m to the north are the footings of a possible dwelling, circa 8m by 3m with a possible outshot at the north end. At NO 51651 89303. are the wall footings of a sub-rectangular enclosure measuring circa 8m by 3.5m. Features also included a possible corn kiln and two enclosures measuring 12m by 10m and 5m by 5m.
