Full Description
Earthwork. A grass-covered bank falls on the southeast slope of Black Hill, originally thought to be the remains of a 17th Century encampment, but the site does not appear to have any obvious defensive purpose. The bank measures 1.7m wide by 0.6m high, and traditionally is said to have been the site of Colonel Morgan's encampment when he besieged Dunnottar Castle in 1652. It is probably a relatively modern (post 18th/19th Century) enclosure bank.
