Full Description

Remains of a mound and the site of two others. 'The Three Cairns' were three mounds described by Reid in 1909. The westernmost mound (A) has been destroyed by a shelter, but there is a slight swelling circa 8.0m in diameter by 0.1m high which may be contemporary with the shelter. The central mound (B) is an unsignificant and featureless swelling, probably natural, 10.0m in diameter by 0.5m maximum height. The easternmost mound (C) 'Heatherie Faudie', may be a motte. It is almost circular, of earth construction and commands extensive views from the crest of Kirriemuir Hill. It measures 26.0m east-west by 30m north-south, is 2.4m high on the east and south, and is 0.7m on West and 2.0m on the north. It seems to have been flat-topped but it is overgrown and considerably mutilated by digging. There is no ditch. Its date and purpose are unknown.
