Full Description

Remains of a probable crannog. Warden and Reid record that a possible crannog was discovered, circa 91 m from the shore, when the Loch of Kinnordy was drained in the 18th century. It was based on a stone foundation and secured by oak piles. Reid gives its dimensions as 70 paces in diameter and 10' high. When the OS visited in 1958, the only noticable mound was a large flat-topped one, which was inacessible at the time of visit due to the partial flooding of the drained loch. The OS 2nd edition map shows a sub-circular pecked area at this spot, linked by a causeway. The site is still shown on the 2006 map, without the causeway. Reid's recorded dimensions of circa 80.0 m in diameter and estimated height of 2.5 m - 3.0 m fits the surviving mound.
