Full Description

Remains of a refuse site were identified in 1998 by trial trenching immediately to the west of a sports ground in advance of the A92 road improvement. The trench produced large quantities of early to mid-20th-century refuse. A larger evaluation was undertaken to the north and east of this site prior to development by AOC in December 2007 due to the proximity of crop marks sites to the north. Apart from further areas of the dump uncovered it was found that upon excavation that the southern land area contained only a thin layer of top soil lying directly on top of the natural. In the northern area it appears as though the topsoil had been stripped in some areas. No archaeological features were recorded.
