Full Description
Site of a possible motte, the highest of several glacial hillocks in the area. The Old Statistical Account (1793) suggests this to be an artificial hillock, possibly 'an old encampment', noting that the 'slopes are fairly steep save in one quarter, where access is easier by means of adjoining rising ground. The top is flat and about 30yds in diameter. OS site visit 1969 found no trace of scarping or any artificial features and no finds have been made in the area.
Author unknown, 1799, OLD STATISTICAL ACCOUNT, No6 (1793) 20 (Bibliographic reference). SAB1845.
