Full Description
A considerable area of rig and furrow is visible over Redhill, with remains of stone clearance cairns. Some of the rigs are narrow. Part of area (on the west side) was surveyed and subject to evaluation excavation by CFA during Aberdeen to Lochside Gas Pipeline Project in 2003-2004 - see also NJ70SE0044. The features on the site (rig and furrow, clearance cairns and walls and a possible structure) were associated with Medieval or later land use, and included 20 clearance cairns, two sheepfolds, two banks, areas of rig and furrow cultivation and a hollow-way. These were on the whole poorly preserved and the area had been subjected to extensive rabbit burrowing. NJ70SE0044 is probably a continuation of this landscape.
