Full Description
Curling pond depicted at this location on the OS map, and still in use. It is circa 120 m long, with floodlights either side and on the south side a timber clubhouse. The east end of the pond is retained by an earthen dam circa 1 m high and 1.5 m wide, with a sluice in the centre and overflow at the north end. To the west is a feeder pond and to the east a large area of low-lying ground formerly used as a skating pond. The Alford Curling Club was formed in 1874. The clubhouse was destroyed by fire in July 2015.
