Full Description
Remains of promontory fort. It appears that that the path to it had been fortified at the mainland extremity by a ditch and mound, the artificiality and defensive nature of which are clear. There is a shallow pit on top which appears to be the remains of a small building which was probably attached to a vague, slightly rectangular building foundation on the north, although heavily turfed, walling foundation is visible on the west side (NJ 7290 6469) of the narrow cliff-top isthmus. Excavation was carried out by the University of Aberdeen in 2019. A large stone wall along with bones and charcoal were recorded.
