Full Description

Fish pond to the southeast of Delgatie Castle. It is a long narrow pond lying within a narrow den formed by the Burn of Burnside. It is certainly 18th century and possibly earlier. On the 1st edition OS map it is shown as having a long narrow island in the northern half, with a boat house on the west bank at NJ75505064. At the head of the pond, at the northern end is a bridge dated 1815. It is a low, single segmental arch with a triple keyblock, flanked by fluted and filleted pilasters on the south face. It has a cornice and blocking course parapet which shows some damage. The north side is plain (bridge listed B). At the southern end was a small footbridge over the outlet. By the early 1930s the northern half of the pond started to silt up. A new boat house is shown in the southern half on the west bank, at NJ75455012. Now only the southern half is open water with the northern part completely silted up.
