Full Description
Motte, with the west and south side being formed by natural slopes. It measures circa 80m east-west and circa 20m north-south. There is a slight bank along the top of the slope on the west side and traces of a broad, shallow ditch on the north and east sides of the mound. A section was cut on the east side in the 19th century, though it is not known by whom (possibly Yeats), revealing a dark layer circa 35cm thick, containing blackish earth with wood, twigs and a hazel nut shell. Bones, three quern stones, sandstone and charred wood were found, though it is unknown if these came from the cut section or not.
