Full Description
Remains of a small granite lintel quarry. Site visit in 2014 noted ledges at the west end where slabs have been detached by very small plug and feather holes, while several bore holes for blasting are evident at the east end. The quarry floor is generally clear of debris, with smaller waste thrown some distance away on the downslope side. Four large lintels were observed circa 9-10ft (2.74 - 3 m) long. Below are terraces or trackways, with piles of discarded waste, some of which may be from sett-making, although some short lintels have been discarded on the upper waste. Some of the stones show both drill holes and wedge holes. The quarry was worked by Andrew Fordyce c. 1850-91, although it is not depicted on OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. It closed when the track was washed away.
