Full Description

Remains of a section of Mar's Road which is depicted on the OS 1st edition map. According to the OS Name Book (OS1/1/14/55, 1867-91) this was at one time a main line of communication but had largely fallen out of use following construction of the road by Auchindoir and Rhynie. OS (1967) described it as a minor drove road of little importance. The section between NJ4982823930 and NJ48562223 was recorded during walkover survey by Rathmell Archaeology in August 2024 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NJ42SE0086). In some places it had been heavily impacted by later land use. One section o possible remaining road surface was evident as a flat stony surface 3 m long and 1.3m wide.
