Full Description
Remains of hill fort, discovered in the course of aerial survey work in 1983. It now consists of a single defensive line of an oval bank and internal ditch with external ditch intermittently present, enclosing over 4ha, making it one of the largest in the region. The earthen bank is circa 4.5 m wide, 0.5 m high, the internal ditch 3-4 m wide by 0.4 m deep. No obvious entrance is now visible. As part of the Hillforts of Strathdon Project two trenches were dug in July 2009. These indicated that there was no significant depth of deposits, the site had been heavily affected by roots (probably gorse) and that subsequent burning had spread modern charcoal through the soil. It has been suggested that the site may be a hilltop enclosure of Late Bronze Age date.
