Full Description

Remains of a gravel pit depicted on the OS 2nd edition map, and recorded by RCAHMS site visit 1998. It measured circa 30 m by 20 m, dug into the slope to the north to a depth of circa 5 m. Also recorded during walkover survey by Rathmell Archaeology in August 2024 (NJ42SE0086) ahead of proposed woodland creation. It is a 4-bowl quarry, somewhat eroded and grass covered. The northernmost bowl is the largest, circa 33 m by 23 m, 4-5 m deep. That to the northeast is 17 m by 7 m and 1-1.5 m deep. The east bowl is not well defined, but measures roughly 10 m in diameter and circa 2 m deep. The southernmost measures circa 4 m by 5 m and is 0.5 m deep.
