Full Description
Remains of a gravel pit depicted on the OS 1st edition map. It appears to have been disused by the later 19th century as it is annotated as Old Gravel Pit on the 2nd edition map. Recorded during walkover survey by Rathmell Archaeology in August 2024 (NJ42SE0086) ahead of proposed woodland creation. This identified a 2-bowl quarry next to the modern road, of 2.5 m and 3 m deep, covering an area 42 m in length and 10 m wide. The exposed faces are somewhat eroded and largely covered in grass.
