Full Description
Remains of a quarry depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps which produced 'slates' (actually a schist) for roofing. Cnoc Feargan slate quarry was named by the Duke of Gordon in his charter for Tomintoul as the source for the new houses. In 1807-8 there was a record production of some 29,000 slates.
