Full Description

Remains of a farmstead comprising two roofless buildings and remains of five enclosures. It Is depicted as disused on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps. Prior to development work an archaeological excavation was undertaken in March 1998 by AOC. Part of one of the structures was excavated revealing a well constructed building with at least two phases of use. The structure was found to have been built using clay bonding, a compact clay floor, a glass window and a formal cobbled entrance. A variety of plain and decorated pottery was also recovered dating the building over a period from the mid 18th century to the mid 19th. Latterly the building fell into disrepair and may have been used as a store or a byre before eventually becoming incorporated into an enclosure.
