Full Description

Remains of a stone circle. It appears to have originally consisted of 7 stones, 3 of which now remain the other 4 having been broken up. The level interior of the enclosure is raised between 0.3m and 0.8m above the surface of the surrounding field. The circle measures 9m north northwest - south southeast and 7m transversely, with the tallest stone in the south southeast. Partially burnt bones and charcoal were found in the centre of the circle during excavations by Alexander Thomson in 1858. At least one of the stones was set up between 1858 and 1890, and it is unlikely that any of them are in their original position. The 4 existing stones have been moved, and stand upon a mound which is 0.76m high. The area of the top of the mound is level and grassy, presenting no trace of a stone setting, except for 3 thin loose slabs, lying a little to the east of centre. A wall had been built round the edge of the mound.
