Full Description

Former railway station. Opened on the Aberdeen - Ballater branch of the Great North of Scotland Railway in 1854. It originally comprised a short platform on the north side of the line, a level crossing to the west and a siding. The 1st edition OS map shows a single building. The station was later enlarged as shown on the 2nd edition map, with the addition of a station house, a much larger goods yard , second platform, a signal box (opened 1899), and a bridge replacing the level crossing. The signal box was closed and the station closed to passengers in 1951. The station house remains in residential use. The goods yard has been redeveloped.
