Full Description

Bridge over the Carron Water built in 1781 by Robert Ury as an entrance to the New Stonehaven (NO88NE0055). It had three arches and cost £145. Iron girders were installed in 1885 concealing the structure and its inscribed keystone. A commemorative stone from the bridge inscribed 'THEOBALD BARCLAY 1150' 'MATHERS 1351 URIE' is now set recut into the wall 19 Bridgefield (NO88NE0270). The rest of the inscription which read '1647 COND 1781' is now eroded. It refers to events in the history of the Barclay family. A coped ashlar pier from the earlier bridge is set into the corner of the building. The bridge was rebuilt in 1973.
