Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on OS 1st/2nd edition maps. The 1st edition shows a C plan steading, open only at the southwest corner, the court partially infilled with buildings and a house to the east. North of the house is a walled garden with small attached building on its west side. Northwest of the steading is a millpond and sluice. A mill lade runs to the steading to the south. By the time of the 2nd edition map, further additions had been made to the steading, including within the court, and new buildings have been added to the west of the garden. Despite the name, assessment by SUAT in 2001 found no documentary evidence to indicate that the site originated as a monastic grange.
