Full Description

Remains of the old parish church of Bervie, built in 1781 of local red sandstone, and surrounding historic graveyard. Only the west gable survives of old church, which is 8 m long with walls 0.6 m thick. The Gothic central doorway and pointed arch window above are still visible. The rough layout of the church, which was a small building, can be seen in the grass. A small building has been erected against the inner wall face. A fairly large graveyard surrounds the remains and is contained within a large boundary wall. The parish of Bervie was dis-joined from Kinneff in early 17th century. The church was in use until 1837. The graves include that of Hercules Linton designer of the Cutty Sark. A plaque at Linton's grave was unveiled in November 2015.
