Full Description
A 19th century cottage depicted on the 2nd edition OS map which also shows a small outbuilding to the rear. The cottage has since been extended and the outbuilding has been removed. The cottage was built sometime after 1864 for the miller’s family at Mill of Benholm (NO86NW0002). The families had previously resided within the original cottage at the mill complex. It remained the miller’s home until 1982. Now named Keiths.
Period Notes
Records suggest the cottage was built in 1874-6, although a later date of 1896 has been suggested.
The cottage is not listed as being independent from the mill complex in the census until 1901.
The cottage remained the miller’s home until 1982.
