Full Description

Watch-house, standing in the graveyard of the Banchory-Ternan Parish church (NO79NW0031). It is a circular, two-storey building of rubble and slate with a conical roof incorporating a bell tower. The date 1829 is cut on the stone above the bell. There is a round hole just beneath the small window through which, it is said, the custom was to fire a gun occasionally to frightened off would-be body snatchers.

Dated 1829. Old bell 1664. Restored and re-harled in 1998.
