Full Description

Farmstead still in use. The 1st edition OS maps show it as composed of three joined ranges, two U-plan open to the south and one L-plan, arranged on a north-south line, the south end of the east wings of the C-plan steadings linked to the range to the south. To the south is a T-plan house set within a garden. An outbuilding is marked to the south. These buildings have since been further extended, and new buildings added to east and north. A horsemill is shown on the east side of the northernmost steading range. This layout is unchanged on the 2nd edition map, but by that time two rectangular buildings had been added to the west. Current maps indicate further alterations and additions to the ranges. The horsemill and the northernmost rectangular building have been removed and the other rectangular building is shown as disused. Photographic survey of the steading was carried out in 2013. Building survey of the farmhouse and bothy was carried out in February 2016. Four phases of construction of the farmhouse were identified. The original farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century and built of granite blocks with cherry cocking and slate roof, is two-storey with a central door on the south. In the early to mid 19th century an extension was added on the north side, and the rusticated granite porch may also have been added at this time, and there were further additions in the mid 19th century, and a small harled brick extension on the west side on the 20th century. The small bothy to the west was constructed of pink and grey granite blocks with cherry cocking.
