Full Description
A late Georgian castellated house designed by James Gillsepie Graham circa 1810-12, with large additions 1815-16 and further alterations in 1839 incorporating the old house of Woodstock. It is 2-storey and attic, mainly ashlar faced and crenellated throughout and sits on a picturesque elevated position. The building sequence does not seem to be precisely known, though the 1815-6 work must account for more than half the house (probably), comprising the western half of the main block and the western and north-western wing, also probably the upper stage of the central tower on the south front. Interior has notable clerestoreyed and plaster-vaulted central hall. During World War II it was used as a school for evacuee Norwegian children. Extensively re-furbished after use as a prep school in 1974-5. There is an associated lodge to the east (NO77NW0109).
