Full Description

Road bridge over the North Esk still in use. Built 1770-75 by John Adam, and subsequently reconstructed by John Smeaton and by Andrew Barrie. The road turns at a sharp angle at each end of the bridge. It has seven segmental arches with triangular shaped cut waters. The spandrels above the two central cutwaters having decorative occuli. There are commemorative plaques on both parapets at the south end of the bridge. A survey undertaken during repair work in 2007 recorded over 600 masons' mark belonging to circa 16 different masons.
