Full Description
House and site of manor. The old house is late 17th or early 18th century in date, of plain construction. A new house was built at right angles to the old one in the early 19th century with a southwest facing front. It is a two-storey and basement, 3-window building of droved ashlar. There is a curved and arched stair leading to a Roman doric columned and pedimented doorpiece with flanking windows, pilastered Venetians. The new northwest wing is early 20th century, again 2-storey and basement with a serpentine southwest bow gable, tripartite at ground floor, and a single light at first. The interior has woodwork executed by Nathaniel Grieve. Further alterations were done in 1928. To the southwest is an early 19th century dovecot (NO76SW0160). A photographic survey was carried out in 2018 prior to proposed alterations.
Period Notes
Built 17th century, carved lintel in basement dated 167? Present 3 storey rear wing bears date stone 1764. SW front wing added c.1805. NW wing 1908, with final alterations c. 1928. Owned by Straton family 1582-1872. Doocot early 19th century.
