Full Description

Ice-house, dating from the late 18th century. It is shown on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps as an oblong icehouse with a projection on the east elevation. It is a large buttressed icehouse constructed from rubble, and has cemented extrados, buttresses and a lean-to porch. The first chamber has a wood and packed sawdust lining and a gothic lunette. It has a large brick vault and barrel-vaulted roof, with a span of 25 feet (7.6 metres). It was recorded during coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009.
