Full Description

Remains of buildings depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps recorded in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. The 1st edition shows five buildings and enclosures. The easternmost building had been removed by the time of the 2nd edition map on which only the southwesternmost is shown as roofed: only this building appears (unroofed) on the 5th edition map. All that now remains of this is the north gable and western wall. Footings of another building are also visible. According to local information the buildings were salmon bothies, one of them in use by Johnsons of Montrose salmon company until the 1980s. The buildings were also used for welfare facilities of soldiers manning the coastal defences during the second world war. Much of the site now beach/foreshore.
