Full Description
Former parish church, now converted to residential use. The church was built in 1860 as a United Presbyterian Church, later becoming a United Free Church, before becoming the parish church in the mid 20th century. It is linked with St Cyrus Parish Church nearby and known as Mearns Coastal Church. It is rectangular in plan built of ashlar sandstone. The west gable end has a single large pointed arch window, with a small trefoil window above and stone celtic cross finial. The slope of the land resulted in a tall church with a basement under the nave, its original use including as a session house and vestry, now converted to a residential apartment. The principal doorway to the church is at the west end of the north elevation, a recessed pointed arch doorway with decorative pediment above. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out in October 2016 by Cameron Archaeology prior to redevelopment. At least three phases of development were recorded. Phase 2 alterations include the ceiling being lowered, the pulpit added to the east wall, partially covering an original window, and internal partitions added.
