Full Description

Property built circa 1910, shown as an Inn on the OS 2nd edition map, now in use as a YMCA Hostel. Two-storey and attic, near rectangular-plan building, with classical and Renaissance features, stugged sandstone ashlar to the front and squared rubble stone to the rear. There is a base course, a ground floor cill course, a cornice above the ground floor, a first floor cill course, an eaves cornice, parapet and stone mullions. Timber sash and case plate glass and horizontal-pane windows. The slated roof has an ashlar gablehead stack with three octagonal cans to the south, a snecked sandstone stack rising from the eaves to the west, an ashlar corner tower with grey slates to the rear faces and cast-iron rainwater goods, hoppers and fixtures. It stands on the site of the Old Lithouse where dyers worked until the mid 19th century.
