Full Description

Remains of a beacon light on the South side of the harbour entrance. It is a conical beacon of 18th century date, constructed from whitewashed coursed and snecked masonry, and is sitting on a square concrete platform. It is 0.9 - 1.2 m (3-4 feet) high, and is the smaller of two paired beacons, the other one being circa 250 m to the East (NO75NW0058). The East beacon rises to a point, and it is possible this beacon would have originally been similar. It was recorded during the coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009. On the 1st edition OS map it is described as a beacon, but on the 2nd edition map it is described as a semaphore.
