Full Description

Church still in use. Also known as Inchbrayock United Free Church. Built in 1843, it is shown on the OS maps from the 1st edition onwards. It is an oblong Gothic building, constructed of rubble and slate, with a symmetrical east front, transitional bell-tower and slated steeple. The weather vane is in the shape of the dove with an olive leaf, to tell Noah that the flood had subsided. Internally the nave is strengthened and braced by sections of the old Tay Rail Bridge. Recording of the church contents was carried out by Scotland’s Churches Trust volunteers in June 2025, including archival documentation, books, and war memorials. The Craig UF Church Roll of Honour 1914-1918, comprising a wooden board with hand painted scenes of soldiers and a line of warships at Montrose, below which the names of the dead are listed in six columns. Two wooden tablets commemorate those lost in the Second World War, one listing 11 names, the other the dedication tablet from King George’s Field, Ferryden which records that the field was a memorial to the men of Craig Parish who gave their lives in the war of 1939-45 and a token of gratitude to those who returned. The oak communion table incorporates World War I and II memorials in the form of three oak panels the central panel with the dedication and First World War names, the Second World War name listed on the two outer panels.
