Full Description

Small mansion house built by Alexander Irvine who took possession of the property circa 1713. Dated A I and M S 1719 over the door behind roof of modern porch. It is a single storey and attic, 3-bay, rectangular-plan traditional early 18th century house with 20th century additions and alterations forming a T-plan. Built of lime-harled granite rubble, it has chamfered reveals and polished sandstone margins to the addition. The roof is of purple-grey slate with tiles and stone ridges, stone skews with simple skewputts and cast-iron rainwater goods. To the left of the south wall of the house is a granite cheese press. The boundary walls to the southeast of the house are of random granite rubble, with a vertical section of castle wall. The 1st edition map shows, to the west of the mansion an enclosure, on the west side of which is a further range of buildings: none of these are shown on the 2nd edition map.
