Full Description
Burial cairns on an east facing shelf of Hill of Trustach within a conifer plantation. Seven were noted in a site visit in 2001, at least two with a birch tree growing in the middle of them. Most appear to have been robbed in antiquity, although all were not visited. Conifers grow right up to their perimeters. A forest track lies to the south of one of the larger cairns noted, which lies circa 6m back from the track and is visible though the trees from it. They lie in close proximity to where a cairn and cist were discovered in the mid 1800s (NO69NW0003), though nothing further was recorded then. The full extent of the cairnfield is not yet known. Further field investigation in 2016 ahead of forestry operations recorded a total of 29 probable cairns, and a number of other possible cairns. Also remains of a wall at NO 64552 96953.
