Full Description
Gate lodge, gatepiers and gates which served as the principal estate entrance to Fasque House when the entrance to the house was to the north-south road. Built circa 1810, in Neo-Gothic style and attributed to John Paterson. Desk based assessment and buildings appraisal was carried out by AOC Archaeology in 2010, and subsequent standing building survey undertaken in November 2016. The lodge is a fine well-detailed single storey, 3-bay, L-plan gabled and finialled lodge with crenellated porch and windowheads. It is ashlar with polished dressings, with a deep stepped base course, round-headed openings, stone mullions, chamfered reveals and raked cills. The front elevation, to the southwest, has a tall gable with skews and a ball finial to the northwest side. The top of the gable has a mock shield with fine dressing to the edges. In the centre of the elevation is a small flat-roofed porch with castellated pediment. The northwest elevation similarly has a ball finial and mock shield. There is a grand entranceway to the roadside through two pairs of crenellated gatepiers with decorative ironwork gates.
