Full Description

Farmhouse and remains of farmstead, probably early 19th century, with later rear wing and 20th century additions. Traditional 2-storey, 3-bay, L-plan farmhouse with original openings, sited close to the remains of a large U-plan former steading. Farmhouse is painted harl with roughly coursed snecked rubble to rear wing and large roughly squared rubble quoins. Steading is of red standstone and is now largely roofless. It formed a U-plan around a central open courtyard with a linked pair of fine deeply voussoired, depressed arch cart entrances at the south. A sluice, mill dam and lade are shown to the north on the 1st edition OS map. A standing building survey was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in December 2018. The steading is constructed of field stones with red sandstone quoins, jambs and sills. The outer east wall of the west wing incorporates a number of blocked bee-boles.
