Full Description

House, now converted to flats but only partially remaining in use, built in circa 1800 on an earlier site that had been known as Eunies Crook. There have been subsequent circa 1830-40 alterations and additions and further additions in the mid and later 19th century. The main two-storey, three-bay house with circa 1830-40 single storey, single bay wings, each with a single storey crenellated octagonal turret-like addition. A later east wing is fronted by a substantial conservatory of two builds. It is constructed from tooled ashlar, some harl pointed rubble, some harling, with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. A square crenellated porch with angle pilasters fronts the centre entrance with flanking tripartites (probably widened in circa 1830) with moulded mullions. There are similar windows in the single-storey outer bays. Horizontal and leaded diamond glazing is used. The piended slate roofs have earlier 19th century end stacks with three coped octagonal flues to each, rear coped stacks and crenellated wallheads. There is a coped rubble walled garden to the rear with a large lean-to greenhouse against the south-facing wall. To the south-east of the house are former stables and coah-houses (NJ06SE0099). An archaeological evaluation was carried out in the plot to the west of the house in June 2018 by Highland Archaeological Services prior to proposed development. A total of ten trenches and one test pit were excavated, covering 7% of the site. There were no features, deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance recorded during the evaluation.
