Full Description

Former Berean chapel built in 1773, and manse. The OS 1st edition depicts it as an Independent Chapel and Burial Ground, rectangular with an outshot on the east gable, an outbuilding to the north, with a well at the southeast corner. To the northwest is the Manse, approximately L-plan, set within a garden enclosure, with a rectangular enclosure to the south, and a small rectangular outbuilding to the northeast. There is very little change on the OS 2nd edition map, but with the Burial-Ground no longer indicated. The current OS edition map shows the former chapel and manse as one property, Chapel House, with the outbuildings and well no longer shown. The former chapel is a fairly large but simple building, rectangular on plan. It was built with rubble stone and harled, with a slate roof. Rectangular doorway and a rectangular window above, which originally lit the gallery. The side walls have a number of rectangular windows. A number of the windows may have been enlarged slightly, possibly after the building ceased to be a chapel. There is also a rectangular door in each side elevation. The east gable has a rectangular window at gallery height.
