Full Description
Remains of World-War II anti-invasion defences. Two groups of concrete anti-tank blocks are visible on aerial photographs taken during World War II by the RAF. A single row crosses the mouth of the Lunan Water, but the other is an L-shaped length in a double row across the river where it disgorges into the estuary. The extant blocks at NO 6892 5107, across the mouth of the Lunan Water, consist of a row of five or six partly submerged blocks. The double row in the L-shape, at NO 6875 5120, has blocks surviving on the west side of the bend in the Lunan Water with several more half submerged blocks submerged in the water. The remainder have either been removed by demolition or tidal action. The remains were recorded during coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009, which noted that the blocks are much deteriorated.
