Full Description

The earlier church was noted by Warden as being mentioned in circa 1200 AD and dedicated in 1242 AD. It is shown on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps as a rectangular church with an addition on the west end, set to the north of a small graveyard. Current maps show the church has been extended to the north, creating an L-plan, and the graveyard has been greatly extended to the north.

It is a Romanesque ashlar church with a belfry, a projecting porch on the west elevation, and slate roofs. It is dated 'MDCCCXLIV' (1844). Inside the church, there is a baptismal basin and sandglass stand dated 1733. The church is no longer used, and has been boarded up from the inside.

Lunan Parish War Memorial is located outside the porch on the wing added to the north of the church. It is constructed from grey granite as is in the form of a Celtic-style cross. It commemorates the 'Old Boys' of Lunan School who fell in the First World War on the front, and 'The Men' of Lunan who fell in the Second World War. A full transcription of the memorial is held in the AAS Digital Archive. A World War I Roll of Honour is now in Inverkeillor Church (MAB38122).
