Full Description
Former flax mill complex. Described by Hume, in the 1970s, as an early 19th century and later large complex. It consisted of a 2-storey and attic, 3-bay by 15-bay block, a taller 2-storey and attic, 9-bay building with a 3-storey tower surmounted by a clock tower and belfry (1837), a 2-storey and attic, 2-bay by 8-bay block (1858) and a 4-bay range of weaving sheds, heightened in brick. Now empty. Rubble built with ashlar dressings and slated roof. The 1st edition OS map shows a complex of buildings, with a lade running from the west, the outflow lade continuing to Craig Pool. An oval tank is shown to the southwest of the buildings. There had been further additions to the buildings by the time of the 2nd edition map. A watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology in 2015 during flood alleviation works.
