Full Description
Farmhouse and farmstead, still in use and shown on the historic OS maps. On the OS 1st edition map the farmhouse is shown as L-plan and is to the northwest of the steading block, north of the current farmhouse location. The E-plan steading block consist of a eastern open quadrangular steading with an court opening to the southeast and a U-plan west steading. A circular horse-mill is attached to the northwest of the southwest range. There are small rectangular separate ranges to the southeast and northwest of the northeast range. A mill pond, dam and sluice is located to the south in the Bonnyton Den, a small rectangular cottage in the southwest and a small rectangular building is shown at the burnside by the road in the east. On the OS 2nd edition map, the farmhouse is no longer shown northwest of the steading, instead is it is shown to the south in its current location. It is U-plan with a south and an east wing to the rear and two protruding gables to the north. The steading has been mostly roofed over, the horse-mill is no longer shown, a southwestern range has been added to the west steading and a pump is shown on the northwest elevation of the west steading. The small cottage in the southwest has a a small protrusion to the south.
The listed building covers the 2-storey farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century and shown on the OS 2nd edition map. It has been altered, with inset stones from old Bonnyton Castle, including two 17th century armorial stones and four carved corbels.
On the current OS map the mill pond is no longer shown, the area being vegetated over by the tree cover of the den, the small farm cottage in the southwest has been altered and now known as Bonnyton Den House, the steading has been significantly added to and altered with further farm buildings and the small rectangular building burnside in the east is no longer shown.
The farm is also known as Bonnyton Farm Threshing Mill.
